You don’t need to build a fortress, but a few simple tweaks can make a big difference:

• Secure the hutch: Use sturdy bolts and check for signs of chewing or weakness.
• Dig-proof the run: Add buried wire mesh or paving slabs as the base and around the perimeter to stop tunnelling.
• Check for gaps: Rabbits can squeeze through surprisingly small spaces, so block off gaps under gates and fences.
• Supervise playtime: If your rabbit has free-roam time, stay nearby and keep the area enclosed.

If your rabbit escapes…

Don’t panic, most rabbits stay close to home and hide rather than bolt. Try these tips:

• Stay quiet: Loud noises can scare your rabbit into running further.
• Look low: Check hedges, under decking or behind sheds – favourite bunny hiding spots!
• Tempt them back: Leave out tasty treats (like herbs or their usual pellets) near their hutch or favourite spot.
